Printer's imposing "stone" for sale in Durham, North Carolina, USA
I have for sale a 4 foot by 6 foot table top formerly used in the printing industry, and used by me in the same manner.
This particular table top is made of cast steel. This kind of table, originally made of granite or marble stone centuries ago, was used to arrange columns of type, and images, into page forms, then tightened together into a "chase." The chase was then put into the press, and multiple prints were made from the original metal type/images.
This table top was used in the Golden Belt manufacturing company in Durham. At one point, an area there was used to print cigarette packaging. Its age is unknown, but is certainly at least 60 years. So it has a vintage Durham provenance.
It is for sale for $2,000.00 Repurposing ideas include: kitchen island; conference table; reception desk; collating table. I'm sure architects and interior designers can find many other uses!
Specifics- Length: 75 inches Width: 51 inches Thick: approximately 1.5 inches Weight: approximately 1,000 pounds I had the top fitted into a steel frame, with wheels. At the moment the height of the top is 38.5 inches. The total weight must be 1,300 pounds or more. The wheels allow one person to move it around on a sturdy floor. The top can be lifted out.
